Living New Deal
The New Deal benefitted every state, and nearly every city and town, across the United States, and today we still use much of the infrastructure built as New Deal public works in the 1930s. Our goal is to inventory, map, and publicize the achievements of the New Deal and its public works across all fifty states. We want to involve thousands of Americans in a collective effort of rediscovery of what New Deal public works agencies did to extricate this country from the Great Depression and lay the foundation for postwar American prosperity.
Here’s what you can do with the Living New Deal map search function:
- Find all New Deal projects near you
- Find specific projects by name
- Find projects by type: purpose, agency or artist
- e.g., all CCC or WPA sites, all schools, all murals
- Do combined searches by place and by type
You can also help build the Living New Deal map for your community:
- Send photos of New Deal sites near you
- Submit information about buildings, places, artworks, etc.
- and stories about the people who made them.
